Grubb has been instrumental in Deboer’s system for nearly two decades, and his return is expected to enhance the offensive strategy.

One major task for Grubb involves determining a new starting quarterback. Ty Simpson, a veteran of the program, seems to be the frontrunner, although the coaching staff hasn’t made any official declarations yet.

During a recent press conference, Grubb was questioned about naming a starting quarterback. His response raised some eyebrows.

When would new Alabama offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb name a starting QB? “Yesterday,” he said with a chuckle.

Grubb added, “If I were to be honest, I wanted to do it yesterday. But we need to let the process unfold. We’re not there yet, and this isn’t our first rodeo. We’ve got a comprehensive plan for evaluating them and for sharing information daily.”

This particular comment suggests that Simpson hasn’t secured the starting position just yet.

It could be a surprise for fans if someone else takes the role during week one, but it seems Simpson still has some work to do to show the coaching staff he can meet their expectations.

Time is running out for him to make that impression.
