Cochise Co. Sheriff concerned as teen involvement with cartel smuggling rises

Sierra Vista, Arizona (KGUN) — For Cochise County law enforcement, traffic stops are turning into high-speed chases. Some people in the diver’s seat aren’t even old enough to get a driver’s license.

Surprising Fact: According to Dannells, nearly 99% of underage smugglers arrested in Cochise County were found on the app.

He says he has been promised a large sum of money for catching and taking anyone who crosses the border north.

A recent visit by the U.S. Border Patrol and Cochise County Sheriff’s Deputy showed a trend involving more teenagers as human smugglers.

Some are as young as 14-15 years old and far from home.

“These kids are supposed to be doing something at home with mom, dad, family and friends.

Instead, they are conducting criminal activity here in Cochise County and other counties with very violent criminal cartels.

Minors who are captured are released to their guardians rather than being returned to the streets. Locals consider it a very important duty for the safety of children and the community.
