Coco Gauff Makes a Coaching Change Before US Open
There’s an intriguing shift happening in the world of tennis. Before the 2025 US Open kicks off in New York, American tennis star Coco Gauff is shaking things up.
Reports indicate that Gauff has part ways with her coach, Matt Daly, and has brought on biomechanics expert Gavin McMillan instead. In his confirmation, Daly mentioned, “It’s only good to talk about Coco, and I enjoyed working with her.” It seems this decision might raise some eyebrows, especially so close to a major tournament.
So, why would she make such a significant switch right before a Grand Slam? Well, it appears to be tied to some struggles with her serve. Following an early exit at Wimbledon, Gauff’s serving game has faced difficulties, particularly as the US Open approaches.
McMillan comes with a solid track record; he has successfully revamped the serves of numerous players, including Aryna Sabalenka.
On Wednesday, McMillan was spotted on the Arthur Ashe Stadium Court as Gauff practiced with Elina Svitolina. ESPN’s Darren Cahill highlighted the potential of this new partnership, noting, “There’s a lot of stuff being added up, and this can be a really good relationship. He’s very thorough… He employs new technology and breaks down the biomechanics using video analysis.”
As Gauff gears up for the US Open, many are wondering: if she performs well or even claims the title, how much credit will go to her new coach, McMillan?
