The development comes after Gauff suffered a heartbreaking upset defeat and dropped out of the 2024 U.S. Open early. She Round 4 by Emma NavarroGilbert confirmed the move in a Twitter post on Wednesday, thanking Gauff for the “amazing” 14 months they spent together. Gauff also thanked Gilbert for her “incredible run.”
Not only did Gauff struggle at the U.S. Open, but the entirety of 2024 has been a tough time for her. While 2023 was a year in which she had a lot of success, including a win at the U.S. Open (her first Grand Slam title), this was the complete opposite of her performance in 2024. Gauff was expected to have a dominant year thanks to Gilbert's tutelage, but that never quite materialized, leading to Wednesday's move.
