Coconino Fire contained, no longer a threat to park | Williams-Grand Canyon News

GRAND CANYON, Arizona — On July 27, a wildfire was reported about eight miles southwest of the village of Grand Canyon.

The Coconino Fire, a lightning-triggered fire, was first spotted around 10 a.m. in the Kaibab National Forest. Firefighters from Kaibab National Forest and Grand Canyon National Park responded quickly and proactively.

The fire has now been extinguished and poses no threat. Its size reached about 118 acres.

Due to extreme caution, park management mobilized the Incident Management Team (IMT) on July 29 to trace the fire and ensure the safety of employees, residents and visitors.
