FLAGSTAFF, Arizona — Coconino National Forest welcomes the arrival of Aaron Mayville, the newly elected forest manager, who arrived on January 30th.
He arrives from Arapahoe and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland where he has served as Deputy Forest Inspector for the past three years. In 2018 Mayville worked temporarily as the Deputy Forest Manager of Coconino National Forest.
“Coconino National Forest stands out as a true gem within our national forest system and is a truly special place for me and my family,” Mayville said. “We are honored to carry on the great legacy of such an iconic landscape, and we look forward to working with our amazing employees, partners, First Nations and volunteers in Northern Arizona.”
Mayville previously served as a District Ranger in the Eagle Holy Cross Ranger District of the White River National Forest and has worked in the Washington Office and Bozeman, Montana.
Prior to working with the Forest Service, Mayville was a naval officer stationed in San Diego, Hawaii, and Japan. He holds a BA in Geology from Boston University and an MA in Environmental Policy from the University of Melbourne, Australia.
Originally from San Diego, California, he enjoys skiing, mountain biking, fly fishing, and playing guitar. His wife, poet and teacher Jodi, was the Poet of the Northern Arizona Museum in 2018.
