sedona news – The Coconino National Forest and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will hold two virtual public meetings in the coming weeks to provide residents and visitors with an opportunity to learn more about the ongoing underground evacuation of Oak Creek Canyon. Masu.
As part of the public meeting, forestry and BLM representatives will present updates on the withdrawal application and the proposed 20-year extension of withdrawal. Representatives will also share information regarding the proposed draft environmental assessment required under the National Environmental Policy Act.
The meeting will also give stakeholders the opportunity to ask questions about the withdrawal.
The Coconino National Forest recently filed an application for underground removal of 10,024 acres of Oak Creek Canyon to continue protecting Oak Creek Canyon from potential negative impacts from mining.
Based on the withdrawal application, the Bureau of Land Management issued a notice on July 25, 2024, establishing a two-year separation banning new mineral claims or leases.
The purpose of the repeal is to prevent the establishment of any new subsurface claims or leases in the protected portion of Oak Creek Canyon for 20 years.
Two meetings will be held:
An ongoing withdrawal will not affect visits to areas located within the withdrawal zone.
