College Football Player Passes Away After Game in Mississippi

Tragic Death of Community College Player Emanuell Cooks

Emanuell Cooks, a community college football player, unfortunately passed away due to medical complications following a recent game in Mississippi.

Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) made the announcement in an official statement on Friday. Cooks, who hailed from Elba, Alabama, was a freshman offensive lineman for the team.

He died after playing a match against Hinds Community College in Raymond on Thursday. However, the specific cause of his death hasn’t been detailed in the statement released by the college.

MDCC president Stephen Jones expressed the profound sorrow felt within the Trojan community, stating, “Our entire Trojan family is ravaged by this loss. At this point, our deepest thoughts and prayers are with Emmanuel’s family, teammates, coaches, and friends. We will come together as a community to support each other through this tragedy.”

Support services are available for students, staff, and faculty during this difficult time.

In a separate statement, Stephen Vacik, the president of Hinds Community College, reflected on the situation, saying, “It’s a reminder of how precious our time on earth truly is. We often imagine ourselves as part of the game, but it’s the players who give everything physically. Their safety is more important than any outcome on the scoreboard.” He added, “Losing a student-athlete in the prime of their life serves as a calm, sobering reminder for all of us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Emmanuel Cook’s family, the MS Delta CC team, and the entire college community.”
