Colorado City, Arizona — A man with multiple warrants in Colorado has been arrested after he parked his car with a child in it.
The driver, Benjamin C. Steed, had outstanding warrants in Arizona, including obstruction of child custody, aggravated assault on a police officer, and resisting arrest.
Around 3 p.m. Friday, Colorado Police identified Steed, It is located at 160 Central Street in Colorado, said Lieutenant Mark Gower of the Colorado City Police Department.
During the stop, Steed barricaded the car but forced the child with him to leave.
“The driver did the right thing and let the child out of the car and go to the waiting family,” Gower said.
From that point onwards, negotiations ensued for Steed to leave the car.Gower said the Washington County SWAT team was asked to back up in case the incident escalated.
After an hour of negotiations, Steed left the car and was incapacitated.
Steed was then transferred to the Mojave County Correctional Facility by the Mojave County Sheriff’s Office.
“We are grateful to all the agencies that have responded to our location … without the cooperation between these agencies, our work would not be possible,” Gower said.
