Columbia University announced Thursday it had suspended, expelled and revoked the severity of students involved in the seizure of campus buildings in 2024.
The violent campus has overtaken campus since the start of the Israel-Hamas War on October 7, 2023, culminated with several arrests at the university and overtaking Hamilton Hall in the spring semester of 2024.
A university spokesperson told the Daily Courner News Foundation that it was unable to confirm the names and numbers of students affected by punishment due to privacy concerns, but the university said it “squickly started a disciplinary process” following the spring incident.
“Today, the Columbia University Judicial Committee has decided on the findings and issued sanctions for students who have been involved in multi-year suspensions, temporary degrees revocations and expulsions related to the occupation of Hamilton Hall last spring.” announcement I’ll read it. “The UJB decision regarding other events held last spring was aware of previously imposed disciplinary action. The return of students that were suspended will be overseen by the University Life Office in Columbia. Columbia is committed to implementing university rules and policies and improving the disciplinary process.”

After investigating the university’s response to the protest, the Trump administration announced in early March that it would cancel $400 million in federal funds from the university after it determined that the university had not properly punished students for its role in the event. Columbia quickly changed the song and insisted that it would make an effort to fight anti-Semitism on campus. The Education Department wrote to 60 agencies on Tuesday, warning that violations of the Civil Rights Act would lead to similar enforcement actions being made against them. Currently, all 60 universities have filed public investigations or complaints related to anti-Semitism cases.
