Companies Backing Out Of Supporting Several Major Gay Pride Events Amid Trump’s DEI Crackdown

Many businesses reportedly have reduced support for several major gay pride events in the US and Canada in recent weeks.

After some companies have begun to reduce support or start to fully raise sponsorships, some pride organizations have fallen behind their fundraising goals It has been reported Wednesday. Other organizations are tackling the funding shortage as long-standing corporate sponsors retreated support, including San Francisco’s pride. Scramble alternative ways to raise $300,000.

The report marks many American companies abandon their diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts amid the Trump administration’s massive push to eliminate DEI programs across the country. Many US majors have retreated from DEI efforts over the past year after facing public scrutiny from their clients and shareholders.

According to NYT, companies such as Booz Allen Hamilton recently withdrawn sponsorships for the WorldPride event in Washington, DC. Andi Otto, executive director of Twin Cities Pride, told the outlet that some long-time sponsors had not responded to his calls or emails, adding that his nonprofit was about $200,000 behind his fundraising goals.

“Booz Allen Hamilton is the only organization to withdraw World Pride’s dedicated financial support,” a spokesman for the Capital Pride Alliance told DCNF. “The Capital Pride Alliance is proud of many long-standing legacy sponsors, many of whom have already reaffirmed their commitment to joining WorldPride this summer.”

“Like many businesses and LGBTQ+ organizations, we are navigating current challenges and many unknown challenges,” the spokesman added. “But I am confident that we have the support we need to have successful, safe, global pride that meets this moment. That support includes individuals, families, organizations and businesses across our community, and a company that truly celebrates many of our communities so that many of our communities are vulnerable right now and can stand with us in this moment.”

Twin Cities Pride and Booz Allen Hamilton did not respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Wes Shaver, president of Milwaukee Pride, told NYT that the Trump administration classifies sponsorship of the Pride event as a DEI effort, and several companies he spoke about are concerned that they will face impact.

“There’s a lot of fear about the impact of working together along our festival,” Shaver told NYT. “Everyone is afraid.” (Related: Many Americans identify as LGBT more than ever)

Jeffrider, president of Hampton Road Pride in Norfolk, Virginia, told NYT that some of the event’s sponsors either reduced their donations or postponed their decision.

“We haven’t seen any major sponsors retracting San Francisco’s pride or other methods of celebration of large-scale pride, but we’ve seen a lot of uncertainty,” Rider said in a statement shared with DCNF. “A small number of sponsors have either reduced their contributions or refused support this year, delaying their commitment due to uncertainty within the organization.”

“This uncertainty revolves around rapidly changing federal funding, DEI policies and other matters in 2025,” added Rider. “Unless we know how much financial support we will receive, it’s difficult to plan our event. It’s encouraging to see some new sponsors step up, but at this point we expect overall revenue to decline from 2024.

In particular, cAccording to the outlet, the US-affiliated opanies have recently been pulled back from donations to Pride Toronto or have begun to scale back from donations to Pride Toronto.

Pride Toronto did not respond to requests for comment from the DCNF.

John Paul Lorard, adjunct associate professor at the University of Chicago Booth Business School, told NYT that when supporting the DEI initiative, many pride organizations “have increased scrutiny and perhaps retaliation, and are likely subject to retaliation.”

President Donald Trump has led a massive push to eliminate federal diversity efforts, including signing on January 20th Presidential Order It has abolished the DEI program, wanted a preference in federal agencies, and references programs such as “radical and wasteful.”
