Confederate Memorial Park to host ‘Winter Quarters’ history event in January

The Alabama Historical Commission announced that it will hold a “special living history” event at Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury on January 27 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The organization says visitors to the event will get a taste of what life was like for the soldiers of the 22nd Alabama Infantry during the winter of 1862.

“Winter weather during the Civil War created harsh conditions, including impassable roads, and significantly delayed most operations. Soldiers performed a variety of tasks, including infantry training, detail work, music, and games. “They were being chased by the police,” the group said. “This living history event will give visitors a glimpse into this daily life through demonstrations.”

Activities take place in and around the barracks, which were built according to the Army's original plans in the 1860s.

Admission to “Winter Quarters” Living History Day is $2 per person, and museum admission is also $2.

For more information, call the museum at 205-755-1990, located at 437 Co. Rd 63, Marbury, AL 36051.

Confederate Memorial Park consists of 102 acres of rolling wooded countryside. It was the site of the only Confederate Veterans Housing in Alabama, providing housing, food, clothing, benefits, and medical care to Southern veterans after the war.
