Arizona Congressman Eli Crane, along with California Democratic Congressman Lou Correa, has introduced a bill to address the growing threat of illegal cross-border tunneling operations. The Underground Border Defense Act is said to help law enforcement deal with underground tunnels that cross the border from Mexico to the United States. Law enforcement officials have discovered more than 140 tunnels breaching the U.S. border since 1990 and hope this law will improve national security. “As terrorists, cartels and smugglers develop new ways to enter our country, the United States must stay on the cutting edge of security technology to protect our people and infrastructure,” Crane said. “I'm proud to champion another deterrent at our southern border that will play a critical role in keeping Arizonans safe.” Crane's bill would require U.S. Customs and Border Protection to , would require an annual report to Congress on this issue.
