A Lake Havasu man accused of attacking two acquaintances with a knife pleaded guilty this week to an agreement with the Mojave County Attorney’s Office.
Cristobal M. Contreras, 33, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of armed disorder in February following a reported stabbing in January. Contreras signed an agreement with the county attorney’s office on Wednesday in which he pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated assault, one of which was classified as a non-dangerous offence. The charge of disorderly conduct with a weapon is dropped.
Under the terms of the agreement, Contreras will be sentenced to up to four years in prison, followed by a period of supervised probation. He also has to pay reparations to the victims.
The incident began on January 21, when Contreras allegedly physically confronted a victim at a house on Block 200 of Saguaro Drive. According to initial police statements, Contreras stabbed the victim before witnesses at the scene attempted to intervene. Police said Contreras cut the hand of a second victim before fleeing the scene.
Responding police officers later found Contreras, who was seen walking the 1,600 blocks of McCulloch Boulevard, and took him into custody.
The stabbed victim was taken to Havasu Regional Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. A second victim refused medical attention at the scene. Police said the two victims were acquaintances of Contreras and were seen with Contreras at a local store before the stabbing.
As of Friday, Contreras is being held at the Mojave County Jail on $25,000 bail.
Mr. Contreras is scheduled to appear in the Mojave High Court on August 10 for sentencing.
