Protests Erupt Over ICE Raid in Southern California
An organized group of activists has urged protesters to gather at a chaotic scene in Southern California, where a migrant incident reportedly involved gunfire directed at federal agents on Thursday. This was highlighted in a social media post.
An Instagram update from the Ventura County Chapter of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) and the local group VC Defensa applauded those who confronted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a raid at a cannabis farm in Camarillo, California. The FBI has released a video showing a man who allegedly filmed an agent while holding a handgun. Additionally, the Instagram feeds for both organizations are already promoting another protest set for Friday in the vicinity.
During today’s legal search, it appears that a man fired a gun at law enforcement at 2:26 PM on Laguna Road. Between the wood and the Lasposa. You could earn up to $50,000 for information leading to a conviction. Call or visit the FBI at 1-800-Call-FBI. https://t.co/a8bqmmwqxt Comes with hints.

“Now – More Support Needed in Laguna Rd!” proclaimed one of VC Defensa’s posts regarding the ICE incident at the farm. Directions for gathering on Laguna and Lasposas roads were included, along with footage showing a crowd of protesters at the farm. The video caption claimed, “The community enters the field to protect the area from agents that have more agents in it.”
Another post from VC Defensa and PSL referred to being “7/10 Camarillo up to Laguna and Lasposa.”
Neither VC Defensa nor PSL’s Ventura County Chapter responded to requests for comments regarding the situation.
The two organizations also announced an “emergency mobilization” on their Instagram for Friday, urging demonstrators to assemble at Oxnard City Hall, which is a short walk from Camarillo, in the afternoon. According to their statement, this protest is meant to highlight the “injustice and fear that our community has been living in due to ICE and the National Guard terrorizing people.”
Authorities reportedly arrested dozens during the incident, including minors among the undocumented individuals. Some protesters alleged that gas was used against them. It was reported that the FBI was seeking a suspect seen firing a shot after escaping from a gas dispersal device.
Federal agents found ten undocumented minors on the Camarillo Farm, which was shared on X on Thursday. Some Democrats quickly criticized the raids, arguing they targeted innocent immigrants without recognizing ICE’s role in the situation.
In recent weeks, California has witnessed a surge in anti-ICE protests, fueled in part by groups like the PSL, who have expressed outrage over local immigration enforcement and organized protests in Los Angeles earlier this summer. These events stretched over several days, resulting in numerous arrests, fires, and vandalism, prompting the involvement of the National Guard.
The FBI is currently offering $50,000 for information leading to the identification and conviction of the shooter. This incident follows two shootings aimed at law enforcement at a federal immigration facility in Texas earlier in July. ICE has reported a nearly 700% increase in attacks against agents.
“The dangerous rhetoric from California politicians encourages assaults on federal agents enforcing immigration laws,” commented Attorney Bill Essay. “Their careless remarks implicitly promote violence and raise tensions, but we will not back down.”
