This, ladies and gentlemen, is South American football at its finest!
The kick-off time for the 2024 Copa America final between Colombia and Argentina in Miami was delayed by more than 75 minutes on Sunday because of a security breach that allowed fans to break through the main entrance gate.
The match was originally scheduled to start at 8pm but did not begin until 9:22pm. (Related: Spain to win Euro 2024 and become champions of Europe once again)
Videos circulated on social media early Sunday showing supporters breaching the southwest gate of Hard Rock Stadium and being apprehended by police and security personnel. ESPN The southwest gate was eventually closed due to the intrusion, security officials said.
The Hard Rock was temporarily closed and stadium officials released the following statement:
“In anticipation of tonight's Copa America final, thousands of fans without tickets attempted to force their way into the stadium, putting other fans, security personnel and police officers at extreme risk. Security personnel managed the entry process more slowly and closed gates to ensure everyone's safety. As a result, the start time of tonight's match has been delayed until further notice to allow ticketed fans to enter the stadium safely.”

This was no different to Saturday night's thrilling match between Boca Juniors and River Plate in the Superclásico, but it's garnering a lot more attention because it happened in the United States.
