Things got even hotter this weekend for Mammoth and Oracle firefighters and first responders, who were called to the scene of two different house fires.
On Saturday, July 1, at about 1 p.m., Mammoth Fire Chief Michael Miranda was contacted by a concerned citizen who said he saw thick black smoke billowing from the building behind the Brest Sacramento Catholic Church. received. When Chief Miranda went to investigate, he found a single-family home engulfed in flames. He immediately advised the dispatch to deploy personnel from the Mammoth Fire Department, the Pinal Regional Fire Medical District, and the San Manuel Fire Department. An AMR ambulance was also dispatched to the scene at Block 85300 Church Drive, Mammoth City.
With the temperature hovering around 108 degrees Celsius, the crew launched an external attack on the building fire. The house had a large supply of ammunition, and several shots were fired. Mammoth Fire Truck 663 was hit, but no firefighters were injured.
Team members extinguished the blaze on the property where it originated and extinguished it around 7:45 p.m. Firefighters continued to monitor the hotspot.
One patient was taken to Banner Maine, Tucson for burns. It was announced that the house had burned down, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Other agencies at the scene included Air Evac, Mammoth Police Department, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, Mammoth Town, Southwest Gas and BIA.
On Sunday, July 2, at approximately 5:00 p.m., the Oracle Fire Department responded to a mobile home on American Avenue near the Oracle Patio Cafe.
Due to the extreme bushfire conditions, several fire departments and personnel also responded. The Oracle Fire Department, San Manuel Fire Department, Golder Ranch Fire Department, Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, AMR Ambulance, Florence Fire Brigade, and Forestry Fire Service (State Fire Department) were dispatched to the scene.
The fire was extinguished on the premises where it broke out, but the extent of damage to the residence is unknown.
Oracle Fire District has been a member of the Firewise program for many years. Homeowners and business owners in Oracle Fire Districts are encouraged to create and maintain a 30-foot defensible perimeter around their property.
