For decades, Arizona’s Copper Corridor has suffered from a growing epidemic problem, land abandonment, and, not to mention, the dumping of wildcats into the desert surrounding the area. Garbage removal and the provision of safe and appropriate waste disposal sites are among the most important tools needed to keep communities safe and clean.

For those living in the unincorporated areas of Pinal County, property owners do not need to hire a garbage disposal service and have the option of using a professional garbage collection company or hauling their own garbage. Waste Management recently notified customers in unincorporated areas within and around Oracle that it will no longer provide waste collection services. Garbage collection by Waste Management will end on August 31 for select Oracle customers. We ask customers to leave the trash can outside on the last day of service. The waste management staff will collect the trash.

In a letter to customers affected by the outage, Waste Management said it would no longer be able to serve the area and that customers had brought their trash to the Catalina Transfer Station on Oracle Road. announced that it is encouraging them to dispose of them.

Copper area news I contacted waste management. “We are no longer able to safely and cost-effectively serve these customers due to their remote location from our transportation facilities,” communications director Jennifer Wargo said in an email. Waste Management is currently valued at $69.92 billion.

Due to customer density and location, this end of service does not affect San Manuel. Arizona’s incorporated municipalities, such as Mammothtown, are allowed to regulate garbage collection and contract with garbage disposal companies, but counties are not allowed to enter into garbage service contracts. Mammoth City’s waste management customers are not impacted as they provide their services through municipal contracts with the City of Mammoth.

Arizona-based new company Waste Connections has announced that it will expand its home waste disposal service to the area, according to a recent email update by supervisor Jeffrey McClure. Waste Connections is offering Oracle and San Manuel residents a special rate of $24.89 per month. Contact them at 520-881-4227.
