In May, you have a month of opportunities to donate non-perishable food and hygiene items for those in need. Donate during weekday business hours of Gila County Community Services at the donation box located in the lobby of the Central Heights Complex at 5515 S. Apache Ave.

Here are the 5-hour drive-thru donation opportunities: Volunteers will be accepting donations on Saturday, May 20, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm in the parking lot of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 4247 Broadway in Claypool. Enter Broadway and exit at Second Street).

Suggested foods include canned soups/stews, canned fruits/vegetables, canned beans, canned pasta, packaged tuna, ready-to-heat rice, peanut butter, packaged foods (seeds, nuts, oats, granola, cereal), bottled water, and microwaveable foods.

Other essentials include can openers, deodorant, toilet paper, toothpaste, shampoo, lotion, lip balm, feminine hygiene products, and socks. A similar food hygiene campaign he held in February was considered a “huge success” by the organizers.

“We’re trying to make this a quarterly event. ‘Food helps multiple pantries in our community.'”

The February drive followed the January Point-in-Time Homeless (PIT) count.

PIT Count’s goals include raising awareness of community needs and providing individuals with information about existing resources, Torres said. She expects to receive the first report on her PIT count for this year from Arizona by the end of this month.

“We continue to recognize the urgent need for food resources within our community and have decided to make this an ongoing effort,” said the company, which hosts food and hygiene drives every three months. I urged the formulation of a plan.

The May food drive will be part of the annual Jason Sanchez Homeless Connect Day event scheduled for Friday, June 16 from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Maranatha Baptist Church, 1320 E. Saguaro Dr., Globe. I will be ready in time.

In partnership with Gila County Community Services and the Gila County Homeless Task Force, the Cobre Valley Homeless Coalition presents this one-stop resource event. “Among other resources, food will be made available to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness,” Torres explained. Food from the Moon’s Food and Sanitation efforts “helps restock local pantries and churches for those in need within our communities.”
