Missouri Democratic Rep. Cori Bush faced backlash on Monday after he was accused of being homeless by a man believed to be the son of an alleged former landlord.
“I know what it’s like to be homeless. I used to live in a car with two kids. No one should go through that,” Bush said. Said her followers. Shortly after sharing the tweet, a man named Jimmy Swanson replied claiming he was the son of her former landlord, blowing her claim (if he was telling the truth).
“You used to live in my parents’ house in Hazelwood, Missouri, but you didn’t pay rent for nearly two years. Have you ever talked about it, or thanked your father for his philanthropy?” Swanson Asked.
I think it’s time for my father and I to publish our experiences with housing. @CoriBush once upon a time. This will take some time. https://t.co/8kYGX2dwJL

A day later he Followed He said his original tweet was wrong. Bush allegedly rented the property from Swanson’s father for a year. Swanson’s father was able to find both the property contract and the eviction notice.
“It was a terrible experience. The other side of the eviction story is never told,” Swanson continued. “[Note:] My father didn’t even go through with the eviction and waited until the school closed 5 months after the eviction notice, and my parents agreed, but she only paid for 3-4 months total for the year. . ” (Related: Rep. Swanson said he plans to share the agreement on the kidneys after his father “has finished his statement in case someone is sued later.” We’ll have to wait until then to see if this Swanson guy is real, but there’s definitely something about his tone that made Twitter go wild over what he said.
