Staff members of Democrat New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker were reportedly arrested Monday on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, Notus said.
Kevin A. Butts, listed as Booker’s special assistant, was reportedly arrested by Capitol police on Monday for not going through security to carry a firearm without a proper license. According to To notus. Butts reportedly was arrested just before Booker began his marathon speech on the floor to protest the Trump administration and its policies. “Last afternoon, Congress members led staff members who were identified around security screenings in Senator Hart’s office buildings,” Capitol Police said in a statement Tuesday. “Late that night, outside the Senate gallery, an identified staff member, a retired law enforcement officer, told our officers that he was armed.”
“Even if a retired law enforcement officer has any weapons banned from the Capitol or have permission to carry them in another state or the District of Columbia,” the statement added.
Notus saw the bat was arrested and put in a police car on Monday around 6:30pm. Meanwhile, Booker’s speech has been dragged out for over 18 consecutive hours, with the senator pledging to continue as much as he can physically. According to To the Associated Press.
Booker’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
