Could Saban really come back to coaching? Some believe the rumor may involve the NFL

Rumors Surrounding Nick Saban’s Possible Return

Greg McElroy, an SEC analyst and radio host at WJOX in Birmingham, recently stirred the pot at Atlanta’s SEC Media Days with some intriguing news that could have significant implications for the SEC.

McElroy disclosed that he had heard from “a well-known source” regarding the potential return of former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban to the field. While no specific sources were named, McElroy noted that he would not share such information unless he had confidence in its credibility.

This radical idea has led to quite a buzz, as speculation swirls about whether Saban might step back into coaching, potentially with a new college program.

Realistically, while some are pondering his return, many doubt it is plausible given the current landscape of college sports. There are also whispers that he might be looking for an opportunity in the NFL.

Andy Staples from On3 stated, “I don’t think Nick Saban will return to college football until there’s a solid set of rules. This probably won’t happen before he turns 80.” Others, like co-host Ali Wasserman, echoed this sentiment, arguing that Saban’s time in college coaching may indeed be over.

“If you’re a coach, you can’t really engage in a competitive environment if you’re just throwing out ideas,” Wasserman mentioned. “But at the same time, it’s hard to imagine a college program that aligns well with his standards. This conversation feels more NFL-focused to me.”

Even though the idea of Saban returning to the NFL after his time with the Miami Dolphins in 2007 is certainly noteworthy, currently, it seems more like a strong rumor than a likelihood.

Still, it will be interesting to see how this develops in the coming months.
