Alabama is home to some of the nation's most conservative legislators, and several Senate Republicans have near-perfect conservative voting records in 2023, according to a new assessment released by the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). I had.

State Sens. Sam Givan (R-Huntsville), Tim Melson (R-Florence) and Arthur Orr (R-Decatur) were rated as the most conservative members in the Senate with a CPAC score of 89%. For Givan, his score increased by 16% from 2022, while Melson saw an 8% increase.
Last year, Mr. Givehan and Mr. Melson cast conservative votes on every bill introduced except for Senate Bill 175, which would create a grant program to reimburse tuition for individuals 25 and older.

Schlapp said that while progress has been made for conservative causes in Alabama, there is still room for growth.
“Alabama should be commended for advancing school choice and protecting women's sports in previous legislative sessions,” Schlapp continued. “But the Legislature's relatively limited success in other areas suggests that Republican lawmakers and Gov. Kay Ivey need to do more to realize its full potential.” ing.”
