Crash leaves two people with serious injuries

A 19-year-old man is fighting for his life in hospital after an accident in Lavigne. Click here for the latest details.

MARICOPA COUNTY, Ariz. — A 19-year-old man is hospitalized and fighting for his life after a serious crash in Lavigne Friday night, police said. Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

According to MCSO, the accident occurred near the intersection of 59th Street and Southern Street in Laveen. Deputies said one of the two vehicles collided head-on after attempting to pass another vehicle in a construction zone.

The 19-year-old boy suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The driver of the other car suffered serious injuries, but their injuries are not life-threatening.

MCSO says it is not yet known if speed, alcohol or distraction were factors in the accident. Neither driver has been identified.

Roads in the area will be closed for several hours Friday night as police investigate the accident.
