The credit union added 34 more branches in the first quarter and has announced plans to add at least seven more this year, according to NCUA data.
The NCUA revealed that as of March 31, the country’s 4,808 credit unions had 21,782 branches or headquarters. That’s still 233 fewer stores than in December 2019, but a net increase of 126 stores over the past 12 months, including 34 stores added since December 31.
All increases are from the South and West census areas. The South had a net increase of 22 locations in the first quarter, while the West added 18 locations. There were six decreases in the Northeast, but no net change in the Midwest.
But four of the seven recently announced are in the Northeast, including the Affinity Federal Credit Union of Basking Ridge, New Jersey ($4.6 billion in assets, 231,589 members). and held a grand opening ceremony for its new branch in Madison, N.J., on Tuesday. , New York, located 16 miles east of Basking Ridge and 47 miles west of Times Square.
Sean Rubitz, Vice President of Retail and Digital Branches, said Affinity was drawn to the culture and community make-up of the area, which includes Drew University and Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham campus. In total, more than 5,000 students are being educated.

According to NCUA data, Affinity had 23 locations as of March 31, an increase of one from the previous year.
The seven credit unions that recently announced branch offices have 84 locations as of March 31, adding six locations in the last 12 months, including three in the first quarter. Besides Affinity, the other six are:
