Payson, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) — A search-and-rescue mission is underway to find the couple after their pickup truck was spotted in fast-moving flood waters near Payson. The truck was found early Wednesday morning in a creek near the Bear Flat community, about 30 kilometers away from Payson.
According to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office, the water level is so high and the current is so fast that the sheriff has not reached the truck. The couple may have been driving through an intersection. Investigators are still working to find out if the couple were in the pickup truck or were swept away.
Rescuers were busy north of the valley on Wednesday. Firefighters used ladders to carry them to safety. The Ashfork Fire Department also joined the rescue Wednesday morning when his SUV was stranded on AA Ranch Road near the tracks. Meanwhile, the two escaped on their own.
