Nogales, Arizona (3TV/CBS 5) — U.S. Border Patrol officers rescued two heat-stricken people near the Arizona-Mexico border on Monday as they were caught on camera.
The two were hiking near Montana Peak, northwest of Nogales, but the heat was so unbearable that they called 911 around 1:00 p.m. The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office turned to the Tucson Border Patrol for help. Border guards said one of the climbers was unconscious or unconscious, and another was suffering from extreme heat stress.
Agents arrived at the man and woman before 3:00 pm as the helicopter crew was called in, realizing how dire the situation was. They used a small tarp as a shade, poured cold water on the couple, and a Border Patrol paramedic started an IV. A helicopter team arrived, determined there was no place to land, and dropped the two off to where the hikers were. Both were wearing body cameras.
“Hey buddy, can you hear me?” asked the agent. “He’s unresponsive. I mean he has a little voice and a little pain,” another agent replied.
An edited video shows the team strapping the hikers into harnesses and helping them up to the helicopter. The video then shows the agent being hoisted into a helicopter with the man. The woman is then taken to a helicopter. The couple were then taken to Banner University Medical Center in Tucson for further treatment.
