Crimson Tide Sports Network says Gold was offered and declined limited role



Since it was announced yesterday that Gold would not be returning this season, there have been conversations between retiring Alabama play-by-play man Eli Gold and the Crimson Tide Sports Network.

About mobile program appearance 105.5 WNSP This morning Mr Gold said the end of the relationship was “not amicable” and said it was not his decision to leave, but rather that the university was looking for a different direction.

Hours after various interviews with Mr. Gold, CTSN released a statement saying that Mr. Gold had been offered a more limited role but chose to decline it.

“After a series of conversations over a period of time, Eli has been given the opportunity to continue contributing to the CTSN broadcast team for the next few years in a more limited role, including the role of lead broadcaster for this year’s A-Day game. Unfortunately, he declined the opportunity. We will always be grateful to Eli and wish him the best in his next endeavors,” the statement read in part.

Mr. Gold has told various media outlets that he has no plans to retire, is in good health and is ready to work.

He also said he has a new job to be announced tomorrow, with many speculating that he could be with the UFL's Birmingham Stallions.

Although the ending was disappointing, Gold is undoubtedly an Alabama legend and will forever be remembered.
