Charges Filed Against Norwegian Princess’ Son
Authorities have charged the 28-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess with multiple serious offenses, including four counts of rape and domestic violence, as reported by prosecutors on Monday.
Marius Borg Hoiby, who will become Crown Prince Haakon’s son-in-law early next year, could potentially face a prison sentence of up to 10 years if found guilty of the most severe allegations. Norwegian lawyer Starla Henrixbo mentioned this situation, highlighting that Hoiby faces a total of 32 charges encompassing various crimes like domestic abuse, vandalism, and violating restraining orders against a former partner. One notably disturbing accusation involves him filming a woman without her consent.
As for Hoiby’s legal situation, he has yet to formally respond to the charges. However, his lawyer, Eren Hollagher Andenaes, has stated that he disputes the more serious claims related to rape and domestic violence.
Interestingly, Hoiby is not in the line of succession to the throne and does not hold any noble title, which adds a unique aspect to this case.
The palace commented, stating, “It will be up to the court to hear this case and reach a decision.” This reflects a certain formality, perhaps, amid such tumultuous circumstances.
Last August, police named Hoiby as a suspect in an incident involving an assault against a previous partner. Reports indicate that he admitted to causing harm to both the woman and her apartment while under the influence of substances, expressing regret for his behavior.
In November, authorities detained Hoiby as they continued their investigation into the rape allegations against him. Attempts to reach out to the royal family for comments did not yield a response by the time of publication.
