The in-game momentum of baseball is an interesting one.
Logically, the Newport High School baseball team won 8-5 over Seaside on March 29, lost 12-2 to Henry on March 31, and closed last week to wrap up spring break. I should have been in good shape for the start of the week. Tournament held at Frank V. Wade Memorial Park in Newport. However, the Cubs spawned Tuesday afternoon at home in a game where he was called after six innings due to the 10-run margin rule at Crook County, where he lost 11–1 in the non-league game.
After hitting 17 bases with the bat in the previous two games, the Cubs’ bat leveled off Tuesday against Cowboys starter Tyson Martinez and relief pitcher Austin Vaughan. They only produced a 2-for-2 effort on a double from senior first baseman Marcus Ebritt and a single from Tyler Mattson on Newport’s three-hit afternoon.
Freshman starter Ryder Hokkema lost to the Cubs, falling 6-2 before Wednesday’s home game against Gladstone. In the third inning, Hokkema allowed two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out a pair.
Newport will start 4A-3 Oregon West Conference play in Staten on Monday, April 10 and return to Frank V. Wade on Wednesday, April 12 at 4:30 p.m. to host the Eagles.
