Curtain raised on renderings of future Birmingham amphitheater

Alabamians will finally get to see what Birmingham's long-awaited Star Amphitheater will look like when it's completed. The first renderings of the new venue were unveiled this week, and many residents were excited to see a show at the state's newest large-scale entertainment venue.

The Star, located on the former site of Callaway Hospital, will be owned by the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex and managed by entertainment company Live Nation. Live Nation also owns Oak Mountain Amphitheater in Shelby County, which will close when the Star opens.

“This is the culmination of a year of hard work bringing together partners and the necessary resources to make this project a reality,” said BJCC CEO Tad Snyder. “This shows once again that when our community works together, we can accomplish great things.”

The new 9,000-seat venue is expected to be completed in 2025 and will host at least 17 to 19 concerts a year.

The expected cost to build the new amphitheater is an estimated $50 million.
