In light of his recent appointment, Sheriff Dannell shared a statement:
“I am truly honored to be appointed by President Donald J. Trump and Secretary of Homeland Security Christie Noem as a member of the Homeland Security Advisory Committee (HSAC).”
“I look forward to applying my 40 years of experience in law enforcement to help maintain the quality of life for those who wish to engage with me.”
“This journey wouldn’t be possible without my respected sheriff, the members of the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, and all the law enforcement professionals I’ve been fortunate to work alongside, as well as the wonderful citizens of this county. My family, too, has been my greatest support and anchor.”
“I want to clarify any confusion regarding my current role as sheriff. My appointment to the HSAC is an additional responsibility, and I have no intention of stepping down as your sheriff. It’s a role I deeply cherish and there’s no other place I’d rather be.”

Kochise County Sheriff Mark Dunnell was appointed to President Trump’s Homeland Security Advisory Committee earlier this week. The committee is set to provide advice and recommendations supporting the efforts of Trump and Secretary Noem. New members were appointed on Wednesday.
A post on the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page explained that “HSAC leverages the experience and expertise of its members to give the Secretary of Homeland Security independent, real-time advice on operations.”
The first meeting of the Homeland Security Advisory Committee is scheduled for July 2, 2025, at DHS headquarters in Washington, DC.
