David Axelrod Criticizes Democrats for Significant Policy Errors

David Axelrod Critiques Democratic Policies on COVID-19 and Borders

David Axelrod, who served as a chief strategist for President Barack Obama, recently criticized Democratic strategies regarding borders and COVID-19 during an appearance on “Fast Politics with Molly John Fast.”

Currently, Democrats hold a favorability rating of only 33.3%, which is significantly overshadowed by a disadvantage of 60.5%. According to averages from RealClearPolitics, Axelrod noted in the podcast that the party seems to prioritize specific vulnerable groups over the broader issues affecting many Americans.

“It was insane to spend three years before doing anything serious about the border,” Axelrod commented. “Honestly, I think it was a mistake not to be more proactive about getting schools back open!”

He expressed concern that while he supports vulnerable groups, Democrats risk appearing to care more about select issues rather than understanding the vulnerabilities experienced by a wider audience. “The party needs to address this,” he added.

Former President Joe Biden didn’t implement an executive order aimed at closing the border until his final year in office, despite challenges like over six million crossings. He claimed there was a lack of actionable solutions to tackle the crisis during those preceding months.

In a separate instance, Florida Democrat Jared Moskowitz confirmed on September 2nd the challenges faced by his party, particularly regarding the influence of teachers’ unions that hindered moves to reopen schools during the pandemic. “I told my Democratic colleagues, ‘Opening schools will be popular.’ But many didn’t want to hear it,” he mentioned during an interview with Chuck Todd.

When asked if this resistance stemmed from the influence of the teachers’ union, Moskowitz agreed it played a role. He acknowledged the polarized environment, where disagreements about reopening schools became quite toxic, especially compared to Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’s efforts.

The extended school closures and reliance on distance learning significantly impacted students’ performance in essential subjects like math and English. Furthermore, some argue that issues like transgender rights were effectively leveraged in campaign strategies to boost support for Republican candidates during the upcoming elections.
