David Axelrod Says Dems’ Antics During Trump’s Congressional Address Weren’t ‘Helpful’

Former President Barack Obama’s chief campaign strategist David Axelrod said on Wednesday that Democrats’ actions in President Donald Trump’s Tuesday speech on Congress were ineffective.

Texas Democrat Al Greene confused Trump’s speech minutes after the speech, but the other Democrats in the room held signs of protesting the president. Axelrod of “CNN News Central” criticized what he called “performative” by Democrats, but argued that his actions were the product of deep political polarization. “I think the performance was very useless last night. But as you know, here’s the deal. Both parties are in one way or another prisoner of war on their base,” Axelrod said. “And I think there are probably a lot of Congress members coming from overwhelmingly democratic districts.

“So, just like the Republican side, bases love what makes people not on bases piss them off,” he continued. “And the members respond to it. This is one of the highly biased issues of the country.”

In Trump’s speech, Greene rose from his room and said “there was no order” before leaving the president. CNN Opinion survey The SSRS on Tuesday showed that 80% of viewers consider Green’s confusion “inappropriate.”

However, radio host Charlamagne tha God praised his actions on Wednesday to Greene, but criticised Democrats who had the signs.

“Many of them shouldn’t have shown up honestly if they weren’t even more destructive,” Charlamane said. “Similarly, salute to Congressman Al Green – OG got some nuts, do you know what I’m saying? Meanwhile the rest of them support the signs like they do at silent auctions.”

Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer on Wednesday repeatedly rejected how he felt about Greene, who interrupted the president’s speech.
