DAVID BLACKMON: Here’s Who Would Guide Energy Policy In A Harris-Walz Administration

I’ve already written twice before about Camilla Thorndike, the recently hired “climate change chief” for Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, so I almost hate repeating myself. But it turns out that Mr. Thorndike provides a wealth of quotes that underline the type of alarmist radicals who will guide climate change and energy policy in the Harris-Waltz administration.

The first strong clue about Ms. Thorndike’s proud political left leanings can be found on her LinkedIn page. So she called on her followers to join an online event called “Progressive Mobilization for the Planet” hosted by Washington’s Radical Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal on Tuesday. and Ro Khanna from California. (Related: David Blackmon: The Tough Life of a Harris Climate Change Director)

of literature Part of the content of this event reads as follows: “We hear from leaders including U.S. Representative Ro Khanna and Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal about the stakes of this election for the planet and why Vice President Harris is the only choice. Mark Ruffalo and Sophia Lee will also be joining us for the final stage.”

Wow, Karna, Jayapal, and mark ruffaloall rolled into one. I can feel the tingling in the soles of my feet, just like Chris Matthews.

Of course Kanna also played the role. co-chairman Praise Democratic Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders for his unsuccessful 2020 presidential campaign. So considering Thorndike, he and Thorndike probably know each other well. worked as From May 2021 to August 2022, he served as Sanders’ energy and environmental legislative assistant. As if that wasn’t enough of a way to burnish her progressive climate credentials, Thorndike will leave Sanders’ office in September 2022 and take several positions with the left-wing Rewire America. I got a job. -A wing advocacy group that pushes to electrify everything and phase out oil and gas.

This past experience made Mr. Thorndike the perfect “climate response director” for the final weeks of the Harris-Waltz program.

Mr. Thorndike X feed is a treasure trove of anti-fossil fuel views. In one X post from October 2021, she wrote: rewire america. This team, this mission — we are lucky!! Towards a clean energy revolution. Defeat fossilized dictators and oligarchy. Let’s electrify everything. Just to be clear, she is referring to “fossil dictators and oligarchs” in the United States, not President Vladimir Putin, Iran’s mullahs, or the leaders of the House of Saud. It’s targeting executives at oil, gas and coal companies.

Thorndike’s feed is filled with retweets of posts by prominent anti-fossil fuel figures, and he seems particularly fond of old radical Bill McKibben. She retweeted McKibben’s Oct. 11 post. read“Now that the richest man in the world is fully aligned with America’s most dishonest politician, it is clear that there is only one thing at stake in this election: Our flawed democracy is worth all this money and lies. Can it withstand the waves?”

For the record, the Washington Post reported “Mr. Harris has a significant financial advantage over Mr. Trump,” he said Monday, adding that “the Harris campaign and its allied committee raised more than $1 billion in the third quarter.” Much of that money has come from billionaires as well as a significant number of the “fossil fuel dictators and oligarchs” Thorndike himself referred to, many of whom are actually Democrats.

oh.

But it gets even more extreme. In May 2022, Ms. Thorndike tweeted her belief that the “fossil fuel industry’s ecoterrorism…is the great birth control” and that it causes children to “die early.” In December 2021, she said The fossil fuel industry is a “death cult” that “quietly kills people every day.”

oh.

Everyone has an absolute right to have strong opinions on important issues affecting our society, and energy and climate policy is no exception. But it is outrageous to demonize the other side in this way on any issue, even if it is inarguable that it puts Thorndike in the mainstream of the current Harris Waltz message. There is. After all, the campaign’s closing arguments seem to consist of various repetitions of the former president’s nonsense: “Donald Trump is Hitler.”

Vice President Harris remains stubbornly insensitive about her actual positions on energy policy, leaving voters to make their own judgments about how things will play out. One way to do this is to look at the nature of the people who create those policies. (Related: David Blackmon: Which Kamala Harris should voters believe?)

So I have to thank Thorndike for his clarifying comments.
