Deadpool & Wolverine reached $1 billion at the box office on Sunday, officially making it one of the best-grossing movies of all time. It's one of only 55 movies to ever reach that milestone.
The sequel to Marvel's hit “Deadpool” and “Wolverine” series will soon become the highest-grossing R-rated movie in movie history. According to According to Variety, the film, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, grossed $494.3 million in North America and $535.1 million overseas, bringing its worldwide gross to an astounding $1.029 billion.
The news comes on the heels of Disney's other summer 2024 hit, Inside Out 2, grossing $1.558 billion, suggesting the company isn't done with the franchise just yet.

Variety noted that “Deadpool & Wolverine” is a much-needed win for both brands after a string of flops for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), which hasn't seen a film surpass the $1 billion mark at the box office since “Avengers: Endgame” drew audiences into theaters in 2019.

But Deadpool & Wolverine may not hold the title of most commercially successful swear-off horror movie for long — it did eclipse Joker's $1.07 billion haul — but there's another Joker movie on the way, and this one looks like it'll be even better than the last one. “Joker: Folie à deux” hits theaters on October 4 and is almost guaranteed to be a smash hit. Starring Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role and co-starring Lady Gaga, the film looks like either an unforgettable love story or a serious mental illness. Either way, it's sure to have Reynolds and Jackman on edge.
