Debate over 9-year-old girl getting tattooed in southwestern Arizona

Yuma, Arizona (AZ Family) — There’s been a huge debate online over whether a 9-year-old girl should have been allowed to get a tattoo.

that’s what happened Yuma’s Black Onyx Empire Tattoo.

The artist gave the American flag tattoo to the girl, who was accompanied by her parents, according to a social media post.

A video posted by the artist shows a girl getting a tattoo at a shop.

In an Instagram video, the girl’s parents said they brought her to Yuma from out of state.

The girl initially wanted a tattoo of Donald Trump on her neck, but the artist said in the post that he convinced her to get something more patriotic, like the American flag.

A year later, the girl returned to have her tattoo corrected.

The video sparked discussion online from people criticizing the tattoo parlor.

According to Arizona law, it is legal for children to get tattoos with their parents’ permission.

Ben Shaw of the Alliance of Professional Tattoo Artists said Arizona is one of the least restrictive states for tattoo artists, and no license is required to practice.

“This is one of the most frustrating things in our career field and in the state of Arizona where there is no regulation,” he said.

He said just because something is legal doesn’t mean it’s ethical.

“It can give us as professionals a bad name. If you look at a 10-year-old kid who gets a professional tattoo and say they got it at a tattoo shop, that degrades us as a whole.” Mr. Shaw said.

Mr Shaw said in such cases it would be legal to tattoo a child with a parent present, but the decision was up to the individual tattoo artist.
