University of Alabama head coach Karen DeBoer appeared on the Pat McAfee show Wednesday afternoon. His predecessor, Nick Saban, famously did it every week.
Among the topics discussed were DeBoer's first two weeks at Alabama, the status of the transfer portal and his conversation with Nick Saban. Coach DeBoer said the following about players who chose to stay over those who chose to leave.
“The players that are with us now are going to be the heart and soul of this team.
The core of our team is here and we have a chip on our shoulder. ” @KalenDeBoer #PMS live pic.twitter.com/Kn0LZFy1T6

“The players that are with us now are going to be the heart and soul of this team. They're the ones who are going to breathe life into this whole thing…I think there's been a little bit of an uncertain time for them, but… I think things are really settling in and we're feeling good about direction,'' DeBoer said.
“The core of our team is here and they have a chip on their shoulder. They want to win a national championship and they took control of it right away. They turned the page and I'm excited to see how the new staff will build on what Coach Saban has built at Alabama.”
DeBoer spoke about the core of the team and why they remain at Alabama:
“I really believe in the core of this team and they are here for a reason.
These guys want to prove some people right, but they also want to prove some people wrong.”@KalenDeBoer #PMS live pic.twitter.com/AvY92OtxgD

“They truly believe that they came here for a reason and that is to carry on the tradition of Alabama football and build on their own. And I truly believe, There is so much noise and will continue to be excluded from the program. People who want to put doubt in these guys' minds. But they want to prove some people right, I also want to prove that the people in the department are wrong.”
