Asked about Alabama's standards and how he will continue to maintain them in the wake of Nick Saban's departure, DeBoer said:
“We all understand that there is only one Nick Saban and that there are many different ways to be successful. We want to preserve the tradition and what makes this place special. I am.”

“The expectations are certainly consistent with what I want to do and what has been happening with this program for a long time under Coach Saban. I think everyone understands there is a way,” DeBoer said.
“We want to preserve the tradition and what makes this place special. But no one is really concerned about what we do on offense and defense and about me as the head coach. will have left their fingerprints.”
In his introductory press conference, DeBoer said Saban will have “100% access” to the program and will try to learn something from his legendary predecessor every day.

In terms of adding his own twist to the program, DeBoer said he plans to begin implementing the attack system next week.
“The guys who came with us from Washington definitely understand the system, what certain concepts are called, and even how we teach it. So once we get back to campus, , I hope they understand those things. Jalen and Austin [Mack] There are centers like Parker. [Brailsford] There is someone who knows every call. We can really get serious here when it comes to implementing offensive and defensive systems,” DeBoer said.
Michael Penix, who transferred to Washington to play under DeBoer, threw for nearly 5,000 yards with 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2023 and finished second in Heisman voting.
If Penix's career in Washington is any indication, Alabama's entire quarterback room should be looking forward to getting started.
