Grand Canyon National Park’s North Rim will open at 6am on Friday, June 2 to mark the official start of the 2023 season. Following a season of record snow, this delayed start is necessary to ensure safe snow clearing of State Route 67 and to allow staff to reopen visitor facilities on the North Rim.
“We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our neighbors and visitors regarding this delay as our partners and park staff work to keep North Rim roads, trails and facilities open safely.”
– Superintendent Ed Keble
Here are the key changes for this 2023 season:
April 12th to June 2nd
- Closure of North Kaibab Trail from Cottonwood Campground to North Kaibab Trailhead.
- During the winter, the North Kaibab Trail and North Rim Pipeline were severely damaged by falling rocks and landslides, making many areas unsafe and impassable to hikers in the inner canyon. To safely rebuild and maintain the North Kaibab Trail and repair damaged sections of the pipeline, we will be closing the trail on an ongoing basis from April 12 through June 2, 2023. The closed area extends from Cottonwood Campground to the North Kaibab Trailhead. Under no circumstances should hikers pass through this area.

- W1, W1a, W4, and Fire Point Road, which access the Widforss Trail, Point Sublime, North Bass Trailhead, and other Kaibab Plateau destinations within the park, will be open to the public.
