Democratic Rep. Ted Lieu of California said in a video posted to social media on Thursday that former Vice President Dick Cheney's endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris makes him “effective” on issues of protecting democracy.
Cheney announced her support for Harris on September 6, two days after her daughter, former Republican Rep. “Dick Cheney is certainly the right person to judge an important issue – the preservation of our democracy,” Liu told Tracy. But Tracy asked, “Why is he the right person to judge that?”

“Because he supports Kamala Harris, because she actually supports democracy,” Lieu responded. “What we saw tonight is Donald Trump still can't accept the fact that he lost the election. He's trying to subvert our democracy and perpetuate the lie that somehow this election was stolen from people.”

“Dick Cheney puts country over party on the issue of democracy, which is why Donald Trump incited an insurrection to stop the certification of the Electoral College,” Lieu responded. “I was there on January 6th and I co-wrote the articles of impeachment against Donald Trump because he is a traitor who doesn't believe in democracy and has not yet accepted the fact that he lost the election. “That's why Dick Cheney endorsed Kamala Harris,” Lieu continued. “He certainly doesn't agree with Harris on the vast majority of issues, but that one issue is crucial, because it's the fundamental nature of our country, it's democracy.”

Most liberal George W. Bush, who became a senator in 2019, touted Dick Cheney's support during Tuesday's debate with President Trump.
