Democratic Minnesota Lawmaker Arrested For DWI After Allegedly Drinking Alone In Liquor Store Parking Lot

Police arrested a Democratic Minnesota legislator on July 7 for allegedly jumping behind the wheel while drunk.

Officers from the Minnesota State Patrol stopped Rep. Dan Walgamot’s car on a state highway after noticing that it was snaking, had an expired registration, and had no front license plate. according to To MPR News. Police were searching the car after receiving reports of a man drinking vodka alone in the parking lot of a liquor store.

Walgamot failed an on-site sobriety test and recorded a preliminary breath test score of 0.106, above the legal limit of 0.080, according to the newspaper. Police arrested him and put him in Kanabec County Jail on suspicion of fourth-degree DUI.

The Minnesota Police Peace Officers Association recently honored Walgamot, who took office in 2019, as Congressman of the Year, MPR reported. He currently serves as president pro tempore and is empowered as chief member of the state legislature.
