Democrats spent hundreds of millions of dollars from anonymous donors in their bid to capture the White House, facing defeat and abandoning principles in the process.
When Democrats formally nominated Vice President Kamala Harris for president in August, they also adopted a public platform that explicitly condemned the presence of “dark money” in politics. Despite this stance, disclosure of campaign funds show Harris relied heavily on outside groups funded by black money to propel her unsuccessful bid for the White House.
Campaign finance records show outside groups spent nearly $1 billion between January 2023 and Election Day to put Democrats in the White House in 2025. The biggest spenders among these groups received most of their cash not from individual Americans but from advocacy groups with opaque funding sources. Future Forward PAC is responsible for most of the outside money flowing into the election to support the Harris campaign, with about $800 million in independent spending directed against or supporting President-elect Donald Trump or supporting Harris, according to campaign finance. It accounted for $496 million of the $13 million. record. Future Forward PAC has been chosen by President Joe Biden and his allies to be the primary super PAC responsible for the Democratic presidential campaign, the New York Times reported. reported In July 2023.
Although the PAC had the support of the party, it clearly diverged from its purported stance on black finance.
Of the $204 million Future Forward PAC raised during the 2024 election cycle, only $89.7 million came from individual donors. The rest comes from groups such as Future Forward USA Action, a 501(c)(4) activist group affiliated with the PAC, which has contributed more than $56 million to the PAC this election cycle.

The Democratic Party’s 2024 platform identified and promised to close this glaring loophole.
“Too much money is flowing behind the scenes to influence our elections,” the platform reads. “Democrats will eliminate ‘dark money’ by requiring full donor disclosure and banning 501(c)(4) organizations from spending on elections.”
The platform warned that “foreign entities” could use “dark money loopholes” to influence American elections. Other PACs that spent large amounts of money to elect Harris while raking in dark money include Somos PAC, Conservative Voters Alliance Victory Fund, and Black PAC.
Campaign finance records show Somos PAC spent about $12.4 million to support the Democratic presidential bid, with just over 10% of its funds coming from individuals appointed. Meanwhile, Black PACs spent about $20 million supporting Democratic presidential campaigns, but received less than 5% of the money from named individual sources.
