“So there are anti-Semitic demonstrations happening. There are hate demonstrations happening,” Cruz said, pointing at protesters who were removed from the hearing. “Reverend Goldfeder, I want to ask you this: Has the Biden administration ever defunded universities that have tolerated this hate? Has it prosecuted anyone for funding violent protests? Has it prosecuted people who paid for those same tents? Or are you sitting back and silently while students at universities are afraid to go to class?”

Goldfeder responded that no charges have been filed and no universities have lost funding.

“If we have a Republican majority on this committee next year, you're going to see real leadership. And if we have a Republican administration next year, you're going to see people being prosecuted for this violence,” Cruz responded. “This administration and the Department of Justice have looked the other way and turned a blind eye and tolerated it, which is absolutely disgraceful. Under Title VI, any university that allows this should have its funding defunded.”

Over the past year, college campuses have seen a flurry of mostly anti-Israel protests since the October 7, 2023 attack by the Islamic extremist terrorist organization Hamas sparked a war between the organization and Israel. Several demonstrators across the country have said things like “resistance is justified,” and at a protest on October 15, 2023, participants chanted slogans aimed at wiping out Israel after a Cornell University professor described the attack as “exhilarating.”
