Dems Have ‘Learned Nothing’ By Choosing ‘Comrade Mamdani,’ According to Mike Johnson

Conflict Over NYC Mayoral Candidate

House Speaker Mike Johnson has sharply criticized mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, describing his political stance as “extreme” and indicative of “massive Marxism.” In comments to the Daily Caller News Foundation, Johnson expressed concerns that Mamdani’s agenda could spell disaster for New York City. He pointed out that Louisiana Republicans see Mamdani’s ascent as beneficial for House Republicans in the forthcoming midterm elections.

“Democrats haven’t learned from their past defeats,” Johnson said, highlighting a coalition around what he termed “radical anti-Semitism.” He also added that as the 2026 midterm elections approach, voters would recall how Democrats seem increasingly beholden to the radical left, while Republicans are promoting a more sensible and patriotic agenda.

These remarks follow Mamdani’s official nomination by the Democratic Party on July 1st. He’s openly identified as a socialist, which has drawn significant attention.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has been vocal in his support for Mamdani, praising his platform aimed at combating high living costs in the city. Jeffries has expressed intentions to meet Mamdani soon, indicating strong backing within Democratic circles, even as Mamdani faces backlash for previous statements on Israel and related matters.

Mamdani has faced criticism for an anti-Israel stance, as well as accusations of promoting boycotts against institutions linked to Israel. His refusal to support legislation recognizing Israel’s 77th anniversary, along with his rejection of resolutions condemning the Holocaust, has raised alarms among many Jewish Democrats in Congress.

Notably, Mamdani is advocating a variety of “free” initiatives, such as universal childcare and accessible public transportation, which have sparked mixed reactions. Some Democrats in New York have openly disagreed with his far-left positions, while others see his potential as a promising leader for the party’s future.

Mamdani’s campaign has not publicly responded to recent inquiries regarding these criticisms.
