Dems Mostly Silent About Whether They Support Granting Voting Rights To 800,000 Noncitizens

House Democrats in New York largely declined to comment Monday on whether non-citizens should be allowed to vote in New York City’s city elections.

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), House Republican Campaign Division, Torching Jillen, Riley, Suzzi and Ryan refused to state their positions on non-citizen voting.

“After Biden allows millions of illegal immigrants, New York Democrats refuse to stand up to the party’s denunciation scheme that allows non-citizens to vote,” said the National Republican Party. Congressional Committee spokesman Ben Petersen told DCNF. “Their deafening silence proves that they prioritize open border ideology outside their touch than our divine voting rights.”

New York City’s non-citizen voting law has been the subject of multiple lawsuits ever since Mayor Eric Adams refused to reject the bill and allowed the law to become law. Several New York courts have broken the law, saying that the non-citizen voting law violates the New York State Constitution.

House Republicans in New York are widely opposed to non-citizen votes.

Non-citizen votes in local elections are not widespread in the United States, but practices are permitted in local elections nationwide, including San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Burlington and Virginia.

The House of Representatives passed the law in May 2024 to repeal the DC non-citizen voting law, but the bill died in the once Democrat-controlled Senate.

Voters in eight states approved a constitutional amendment in November last year that prohibits non-citizen voting in state and local elections.
