In a secret vote on Tuesday, Democrats chose California Democrat Robert Garcia to become a ranking member of the House Committee on Surveillance and Reform.
Garcia was one of four Democrats who traveled to El Salvador in April last year and stayed in a luxury hotel while advocating for the release of the highly-recognised MS-13 gang bangger Kilmer Abrego Garcia. The House Committee on Surveillance and Reform helps ensure government efficiency and accountability. If Democrats win the House after the 2026 midterm elections, Garcia will likely run a Trump administration investigation and put him in the best position to go to the toes with the Republican president.
Garcia took part in the race with support for the 43 Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the 43 Democrats in the California home delegation. He also received 33 steering committee votes on Monday night, with Lynch winning 15 and winning him.support of the committee. It was also the third mark in the race when Lynch ran for a seat and lost.
Mfume has eight votes, while Crockett brings together only six, and has both candidates. Dropout of the race before the final vote on Tuesday morning.

Florida Democrat Maxwell Frost, a trip to El Salvador with one of Garcia’s colleagues, congratulated California lawmakers in his election as a ranking member on Tuesday. frost Called Garcia: “Tough progressive with a strong work ethic,” in a post on X.
“He will lead the fight to hold them accountable and show the nation as corrupt managers break the law and enrich themselves while people are suffering,” the lawmaker added.
