Yuma — Vehicle stolen reported Around 4:45 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023. Lawmakers quickly learned that it was no ordinary car theft.
When the sheriff’s office showed up to N. Frontage Report to investigate the theft, a woman identified as Jenny Duarte, a 32-year-old from Sealy, Calif., rented a car from a peer-to-peer car-sharing company and drove to Yuma. Reported stolen while shopping at a store.
After careful investigation, agents say Duarte made some sort of agreement to deliver rental cars to unidentified people in Mexico. According to reports, Duarte was exchanging money.
Duarte was arrested on Monday and held in the Yuma County Detention Center on charges of conspiring to defraud, theft, selling stolen goods, and falsely reporting to law enforcement.
Agents say the vehicle was very likely in Mexico by this point.
