Desert 101 Hike (Registration Required, Limit 20 Participants) – Animals – Events

Take some time away from the water and get immersed in the surrounding desert with Ranger Derik as you learn about the native plant and animal species that call the Sonoran Desert home. Hike the 3-miles Yavapai Point Trail through saguaro and teddy bear cholla cacti. The trail is rocky and uneven at times, so it is encouraged that you wear sturdy close toed shoes as well as proper clothing for the weather. Meet for the hike at the Cottonwood Trailhead at the North end of Lake Pleasant. At the trailhead there is ample parking as well as bathrooms and a water fountain.

MEETING LOCATION: Cottonwood Trailhead (***Enter park through the North Entrance***).

Limit 20 participants. To register, please email Ranger Derik at derik.rodgers@maricopa.gov with your name, phone number and the number of participants in your party. If you are unable to attend the hike, please email back as soon as possible so those on the wait list can be added to the hike. Registration for this program will close on 5/25/2023.
