Around 11:00 am on Sunday, July 16, 2023, a man and woman in their 30s complained of symptoms associated with estrus, and a woman called 119. The two had hiked the trails of Sarah Park for about three hours. The maximum temperature for the day is expected to be 118 degrees, and a heat advisory has been issued. Two locomotive companies, one battalion commander and two rescue vehicles responded. The hikers were found on the trail 11 minutes after emergency workers arrived. Both hikers were taken to the trailhead and the woman was taken to hospital with heat-related problems.
The Lake Havasu City Fire Department recommends that if you want to hike in the summer, start early, bring plenty of water, know your hiking area, let others know your plans, and have a fully charged cell phone.
